Decorating Your New Condo

Posted on

You have purchased your Carrington Communities Condo, congratulations!

But now, how do you decorate it? What kind of themes do you want in your new home? Do you want bold, confident colours with statement pieces? Or a nice relaxing theme to your home?  The task of choosing what theme to decorate your new home can be a daunting one. Luckily, we have some advice for you.

Decorating a condo is a unique challenge since modern suites are compact with open concept floor plans. The most important thing you can do to maximize your space is to invest in furniture  that provides double duties. For example, an Ottoman that doubles as a storage bin.  This allows you to have a clutter-free living space, while still having everything you need within reach. Glass coffee tables are also a good centre piece for your living room, as it keeps the room open and does not impede the eye. You can also create “invisible walls” through the use of furniture. For example, separate your dining area and living space by placing a couch where you’d like the living space to end. Behind the couch, place a chest of drawers to add storage and create the feel of a new room.

The choice of paint is also critical when decorating your new home. Dark colours tend to close in the room, so avoid these unless you’re using it on an accent wall. Mirrors are also your best friend. By placing mirrors on the walls throughout your home, you will be amazed at how much bigger your space looks.

While many colours in one room can be overwhelming, don’t be afraid to use them. For example, going with a neutral theme in the room and adding a pop of colour, for example, a nice orchid purple (Pantone’s colour of the year for 2014) will help to spice up the space in a unique way. Adding accents of the colour throughout will help tie it all together. Be wary of using too many different colours, however. It is best to use either variations of the same colour, or complementing colours (for example, those which are close to one another on the colour wheel).

Don’t be afraid of adding texture to your new home, either. A great way to add accents without adding more colours is the use of textiles and patterns. For example, throws, pillows, and rugs can all spruce up a room in the same tones you are using, and they are easy to find.

Overall, the most important thing you can do in your new condo is make sure it’s comfortable. Whether you’re design theme is bold and outgoing, or relaxing and calming, you have put in the resources to purchase a Carrington Communities Condo, it’s time to make it your own.
